Pelican 1626 Air Case - Black & Orange

Beautiful!

I found that for a lot of international flights, the Pelican 1626 is right at the size limit for checked baggage without getting hit with extra fees. My airline has a 62-inch max (L+W+H), and the 1626 comes in at 61.5. They still sent me to oversize baggage, but I wasn't charged — which was a win.

Now, this thing is an absolute beast. I think of it as a tough footlocker on wheels, built like a tank with serious handles. It’s substantial, and I love that. If you're a road warrior or working overseas, you can live out of this case.

I went all in and got the yellow padded divider set with the mesh lid organizer, and it worked out really well. The yellow insert has a removable top tray, so I could store heavier gear on the bottom and keep smaller items up top. The bottom dividers helped secure bulkier gear so it didn’t shift in transit, which was perfect. On the top tray, I stored smaller devices and peripherals that were too heavy for my carry-on. The mesh zipper flap helped keep everything in place over the dividers — nice touch.

As for the mesh lid organizer, the only minor gripe I have is the zippers. They’re not YKK like I’m used to on higher-end backpacks, and you can tell. They work fine, but they can skip or misalign if you're not careful. Just don’t rush or overpack the lid pouches with heavy stuff — they’re better suited for cables, adapters, or smaller accessories.

The case with the lid organizer and padding weighs over 18 lbs empty, so with a 50 lb airline limit, you get around 32 lbs of usable packing weight. That was more than enough for me. Honestly, even at this price, the case pays for itself if you’re protecting expensive gear or have ever had to deal with damaged luggage or nightmare baggage claims. That was the justification I gave my wife — and honestly, it was a solid one.

This is a really great case. It is a lot lighter than a comparable standard case. Again, I love being able to get these cases with handles and latches of different colors.

I am using this case as a cargo case in the back of my Subaru Crosstrek. The only negative is I really wish Pelican made the EZ-Click Molle Panel. It is a great high capacity light weight case.

Makes for a great mobile footlocker that locks out the weather. I do artillery and this fits in the bustle rack of a M109-A6 howitzer. dust, rain are all kept at bay by the rubber seal.

Big enough for all my scuba gear!

I haven't done much with it yet, but it seems to be well built. I got the case only version, since I have packing paper.
